After a 3 hour trip, doing interviews with radio and magazine reporters along the way, I arrived in Columbus, Ohio to present the winner of our annual October Report Drive with her prize.. a cherry-red SmartCar Fortwo Coupe! I first saw this tiny environment-friendly car when Tom Hanks drove around Paris in one in “The Da Vinci Code.”

Instead of being one of the first in the Midwest to own a SmartCar Fortwo Coupe, Sally Key asked us to award the car directly to Heritage Day Health Centers, a local adult day care center where she volunteers. Heritage Day will raffle the car off to raise money.

I was so impressed by Sally’s generosity. When I first called her to let her know she was the winner, it never entered her mind to keep it; she wanted to do some good with it. I’m glad the prize is going to such a great cause and that we were able to have this small part in helping Heritage Day.

I also hope the eventual winner is bilingual. The car isn’t available in the U.S. until next year. We worked with a company that imported it early. The owner’s manual on this one is in French...
