As much as I love everything about the holidays, I personally don't have holiday plants in my home.
While they're nice to look at, plants can be dangerous–especially around small children. Poison tends to have a reputation as something 'yucky' with a skull and crossbones or one of the green poison stickers affixed to it, not a pretty plant, flower or berry. Two popular holiday plants, poinsettias and holly berries, are among the most frequent poisonous plant exposures reported to the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
Poinsettias aren't poisonous, exactly, but they are dangerous.
Did you know that poinsettia sap can cause temporary blindness if it gets in your eyes? Ingesting poinsettias can cause some gastrointestinal discomfort, as can holly berries, which are mildly toxic. If you plan on having these in your home, please keep a sharp eye on any children that might be around.
