One of my favorite projects at Angie's List is the Wishmakers program we established in 2004, which pairs service companies with deserving members of their community. Our most recent request came from the staff at Heartland Hospice on behalf of Mattie Shelley in Indianapolis. Shelley had been living with a toppled oak tree in her front yard since the day she and her husband moved in. To make matters worse, her 57-year old husband had just weeks to live.

Heartland Hospice asked Angie’s List to take care of the tree while the couple, who spent their years together traveling and are the proud grandparents of 24, focused on their remaining days together.

At our request, Indiana Tree Service stepped in to remove the tree at no cost. Unfortunately, Mr. Shelley passed away before we became involved. But we're very grateful to Indiana Tree Service for helping the Shelley's, and our thoughts and prayers are with Mattie and her entire family.
